1. Mrs. Henrietta Agboola (Hat Designer)

The making of hats in unique designs, shapes and colours that meet exactly, the needs of her customers is the basis of Henrietta Agboola's millinery business.

While at secondary school, Henrietta studied textile design and was awarded "best overall student". Inspite of earning a degree in psychology and a higher degree in organisational behaviour from the University of Lagos, Henrietta was unable to secure a salaried position. After much thought, she decided to set up her own business, utilising herskills in hat making.

Henrietta was to turn her hobby of making clothes, bags, berets and hats for friends into a business. However, she lacked the finance to make her dream a real ity.

Henrietta was referred to Youth Business Initiative and received a start-up loan of N170,000 and subsequently in October 2001 Henrietta House of Hats was established. "Hers was a vision that was oozing with success as reflected by positive cash flow statements" states Adeyinka Adebanjo, former General Manager of YBI. Young working ladies between the age of 18 and to 35 are Henrietta's core target market.

According to her mentor, Rotarian Biodun Jolaoso (a management and training specialist), “it is always a delight to work with a young person with a vision and Henrietta falls into this category - in both skills and management”.

This has be proven right. Henrietta has attracted attention at many local and international trade fairs she has attended. She has paid off her loan and thinking of expansion.
