The core of any youth business initiative is a group of business people and partner organisations willing to help young people work for themselves.

The company benefits in the following ways. from its involvement:

  • Helping create wealth and reduce unemployment.
  • Combating over-dependency on the corporation as the principal employer in poor areas.
  • Contributing to the diversification and sustainability of local economies.
  • Building an entrepreneurial culture
  • Reducing ttie adverse social impact of downsizing.
  • Enhanced reputation and brand image
  • Improved employee recruitment, retention and motivation.

Companies can get involved in the YBI programme in the following ways:

  • Managing a programme as a member of the board of trustees (or equivalent senior management board).
  • Seconding staff to the executive team of the programme.
  • Providing the programme with access to facilities such as office space, IT equipment.
  • Participation in a local loan panel that determines which young businesses to support Mentoring young businesses
  • Providing expert advice to young businesses e.g. on legal or marketing issues.
  • Offering the young business subsidised or free facilities e.g. Exhibition space, shop space, web site development etc.
  • Including the young businesses in the companies supply chain.
